Maddie Johnson enters her first season as assistant women's tennis coach after serving as volunteer assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s tennis programs during the 2018 season.
 
Johnson returned to Des Moines after earning her master’s degree in management at Durham University in England, while playing on the Durham University Tennis Club. She led Durham’s tennis club to an unprecedented number of individual and team championships at the highest level of competition in the U.K. Individually, Johnson posted a 15-4 record and ranked 11th in the national university rankings.
 
Prior to going across the pond, Johnson was one of the most accomplished Bulldogs in the program’s history. She was a 2016 second-team CoSIDA Academic All-America selection, four-time all-MVC honoree and a three-time first-team MVC Scholar-Athlete. She ranks second in program history with 102 career-singles wins, while also recording over 85 doubles victories.
 
Johnson received a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2016.
