Reed Fischer, a senior from Minnetonka, Minn., has been named this week's Bulldog Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Drake Graduate and Professional Programs.
Fischer, a member of the Drake men's cross country team, finished second in the White race at the adidas Pre-National Invitational with an 8k time of 24:46.3. He finished just nine seconds out of first place and ran with the leader for the majority of the race while holding off the rest of the 134-runner field. So far this season, Fischer has been Drake's top runner in every race he has competed in and owns the fastest 8k and 6k time in the Valley this season
He has been named the MVC Cross Country Male Athlete of the Week three times this season and the MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week two times this season. As a junior he was first-team All-MVC and the runner-up at the MVC Championship.
Academically, Fischer owns a 3.81 grade point average as an English and public relations major.
