DES MOINES, Iowa – Drake football's
Nathan Clayberg was named CoSIDA Academic All-District Team for his effort in the classroom and on the field on Wednesday.
Clayberg, a junior defensive lineman, earned first team honors and is eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.
He owns a perfect 4.0 GPA as finance/accounting major. Clayberg has recorded 16 tackles (four solo), a blocked kick and one tackle for a loss. He registered a season-high four tackles (two solo) in the Bulldogs' win over Campbell on Oct. 29. Last year, he registered 28 tackles with 10 of them being for a loss in his rookie season.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports. Drake football has had eight student-athletes earn a total of 10 Academic All-America honors.
Clayberg and the rest of the Bulldogs return to action on Saturday when they travel to Jacksonville University.
