TAMPA, Fla. – Drake University tight end
Eric Saubert has accepted an invitation to play in the 92nd East-West Shrine Game. The Game will be held January 21, 2017, at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla., kicking off at 2 p.m. CST and broadcast live on NFL Network.
Saubert led the Bulldogs with a career-high 56 receptions for 776 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns to earn first-team All-Pioneer Football League honors. In his final game in a Bulldog uniform, he recorded 131 yards receiving with two touchdowns at Stetson on Nov. 19. The Hoffman Estates, Ill., native, ended his four-year Drake career with 190 catches for 2,253 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns.
A strong performance at the East-West Shrine Game can greatly impact a player's chances of a career in the NFL. More than 100 players from last's game signed with professional teams this spring, and more than 70 made final NFL roster.
The East-West Shrine Game is the longest-running college all-star football game in the country. While the teams are divided by East and West, the players come together for the beneficiary of the event, Shriners Hospitals for Children.
