Three members of the Drake University volleyball team are set to take part in open tryouts for the U.S. Women's National Volleyball Team this weekend, Feb. 19-21, at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. 

Rising seniors Chandelle Davidson (Gretna, Neb.) and Makena Schoene (Seattle, Wash.) , along with rising junior Kyla Inderski (Urbandale, Iowa) will take part in the tryout along with 231 athletes from more than 80 colleges and universities across the country.

"The opportunity to go is so incredible," Davidson said. "To know that we are going there and that we are good enough to go there is really cool to think about." 

Tryouts are being held for spots on the U.S. National Team, U.S. Collegiate National Team and the U.S. Junior National Team.

"I've never been to a tryout of this size before and there are going to be coaches and players from all over the country," Schoene said. "I'm excited to get some feedback from someone who doesn't see me play every day and might see something different in the way I play." 

Inderski finished the season tied as the team's co-leader in kills with 350 and was second on the team in digs with 421 on the season. Inderski recorded 15 double-doubles and was named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete team. 

Schoene finished the season tied with Inderski as the teams' leader in kills and also lead the team in total points scored with 406.5 for the season. 

Davidson, one of the team's setters, recorded 519 assists on the season, the second highest on the team and recorded 245 digs and 26 service aces. 

"We will be playing amongst some of the best of the best, and I want to bring back that confidence and experience to our team," said Davidson "I want our team to know that we will be strong competitors in the future and be able to compete within the Missouri Valley Conference."
