Men's Golf Moves Up To Fifth Place Through 36 Holes At Kingsmill Intercollegiate

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Drake University men's golf team finished the second round of the Kingsmill Intercollegiate on Monday tied for fifth place out of 24 teams.

The Bulldogs recorded a 291 on the second day for a total score of 583 (292-291) through 36 holes and are tied with Dayton and Appalachian State. Penn State and Tennessee are tied for the top of the leaderboard with a score of 569, while TCU (575) and Loyola (MD) (582) are in third and fourth, respectively.

"We had another good team score in cold and windy conditions. I am happy with our team position," Drake head coach Matt Lewis said. "Matt (Lavery) and Tommi (Avant) had a solid day with a 72 and Drew (Ison) had a slow start, but had awesome back-nine, shooting a 30."

Sophomore Drew Ison led the team by shooting a 70 (E) for a total score of 144 (74-70) and is tied for 14th place. Freshman Tommi Avant and sophomore Matt Lavery each carded a 72 as Avant is tied for fourth with a score of 140 (68-70) and Lavery has a total score of 149 (77-72). Freshman Jack Kennedy and Blake Huser each recorded a 77 to round out the Bulldogs' day.

"We will approach tomorrow as just another day of golf," Lewis said.

Drake closes out its week with the final round of the Kingsmill Intercollegiate on Tuesday.
