Huston Breaks School Record At Stanford Invitational

Indoor 5,000 meters school record holder adds outdoor 5,000-meter record to her resume

Senior Emma Huston (Des Moines, Iowa) added another honor to her stellar career by setting the Drake University school record in the women's 5,000 meters on Friday evening at the Stanford Invitational.

Huston finished third in her heat of the event in a blistering 16:06.55 to shatter the previous 33-year-old record of 16:16.43 set by Liz Hjalmarsson in 1983. In addition to besting that record by nearly 10 seconds, it was also a 21-second personal best for Huston.

In the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, Rob McCann (Mississauga, Ontario) won his heat of the event in 8:47.35, just three seconds shy of his personal best. At the time of the race's finish, McCann's time was the fastest run in the nation this season.

Three other Bulldogs were in action on Friday with three jumpers taking off at the Texas Relays. Ryan Cook (Colorado Springs, Colo.) cleared 6-7 in the men's high jump to finish in a tie for seventh in his section. In the horizontal jumps, Kayla Bell (Bolingbrook, Ill.) was third in the long jump with a jump of 18-8 and later jumped 39-2.25 to finish ninth in her section of the triple jump. Taryn Rolle (Nassau, The Bahamas) finished behind Bell in 12th in the event in 36-6.75.
