Huston Shatters Another School Record At The Mt. SAC Relays

Senior breaks her third school record of the year.

NORWALK, Calif. - Senior Emma Huston (Des Moines, Iowa) etched her name into the Drake University track and field record book for the third time this year with a school-record performance in the 10,000 meters late Thursday, April 14, at the Mt. SAC Relays.

Huston's time of 33:55.89 shattered the previous 33-year-old record by more than half a minute. That previous record was set by Liz Hjalmarsson in 1983 with a 34:29.14 finish.

Huston's record-setting performance came via a fourth-place finish in the elite invitational flight of the women's 10,000 meters. She was the top collegiate finisher in the race behind three professional runners. Her time is easily the fastest in the Missouri Valley Conference this season and the fastest by a Valley runner since the 2014 season. Earlier this season, Huston broke the Bulldogs' school record in both the indoor and outdoor 5,000 meters.

In other late races on Thursday night at Mt. SAC, Reed Fischer (Minnetonka, Minn.) finished seventh in the elite invitational section of the men's 10,000 meters with a time of 29:09.86, the second fastest time in school history. Fischer was the third collegiate competitor across the line in the talented field of collegiate and professional runners. His time was also the fastest in the MVC this season.

Griffin Jaworski (Winter Park, Fla.) also competed in the men's 10,000 meters, finishing in 30:38.79 to take 55th place in the deep field.

The majority of the Drake track and field team is set to compete this weekend at the 40th annual Jim Duncan Invitational on the Blue Oval at Drake Stadium.
