CARBONDALE, Ill. – The Drake University women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision at Southern Illinois on Sunday at University Courts.
The Bulldogs took an early 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point.
Summer Brills and
Joely Lomas rolled past Meagan Monaghan and Vitoria Beirao, 6-2, at the No. 2 spot, as
Mariel Ante and
Maddie Johnson clinched the point with a 6-3 victory over Xiwei Cai and Ana Sofia Cordero at No. 1.
The Salukis tied things up quickly, as they took No. 5 singles. SIU added two more victories shortly after with wins on courts one and four, taking a 3-1 lead. The Salukis clinched the match when Polina Dozortseva defeated
Lea Kozulic, 6-3, 6-4. The Bulldogs closed out the match with a pair of wins from
Tess Herder and Johnson.
Drake wraps up the regular season next weekend as the Bulldogs host Bradley on Saturday and Illinois State on Sunday.
