Drake University's Robert McCann (Mississauga, Ontario) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week, the league announced Tuesday, April 5.

McCann earned the weekly honor by winning his heat of the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 8:47.35 at the Stanford Invitational on Friday. His time was just three seconds off his personal best in the event.  At the time of the race, his finish was the fastest in the nation and currently ranks as the ninth fastest in the nation, sixth fastest in the West region and the fastest in the MVC by nearly eight seconds. In his race, he defeated competitors from Washington State, Arizona, Colorado, Tulsa and Penn.

The Drake University track and field team is set to compete this weekend at the Ottawa Braves Invitational on April 9 in Ottawa, Kan.
