DES MOINES, Iowa – Drake University senior women's tennis player
Maddie Johnson (Onalaska, Wis.) was named second-team CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division I Women's At-Large Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Johnson, who maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average, majoring in psychology became the first Drake women's tennis student-athlete to collect national honors as selected by CoSIDA since 1993 when Stacy Janikowski received the award.
She finished her senior season with a 25-9 singles record and earned All-MVC select team honors. She recorded her 102nd career singles win in the semifinals of the MVC Tournament, tying Cecily Dubusker for a program best.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form.
