The 2015-16 season featured many thrilling moments and accomplishments for Drake athletics. From conference titles, outstanding team and individual accomplishments, postseason appearances and significant regular season victories, the Bulldogs had plenty to celebrate as they look forward to the upcoming season. Before embarking on 2016-17, www.GoDrakeBulldogs.com will take a look back at the top 10 moments of the 2015-16 throughout the month of July.
 
The No. 7 moment of 2015-16 comes from the softball team on May 11 when sophomore pitcher Nicole Newman was named the Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year. For the second-straight year, Drake took home the league's top pitching award after Rebekah Schmidt won the award in 2015.
 
Newman, who was named the 2015 MVC Freshman of the Year, had an outstanding sophomore campaign in the circle. She went 22-13 with a 2.96 earned run average with a program-record and league-leading 286 strikeouts. She recorded 10 or more strikeouts in a game 10 times during the season. Newman also collected All-MVC First Team and NFCA Midwest All-Region Second Team honors for the second consecutive season. Newman helped the softball team finish as 2015 regular season and MVC Tournament runner-ups.
