DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University women's tennis team was awarded the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team Award on Monday, while Mariel Ante, Summer Brills, Tess Herder, and Maddie Johnson were recipients of the ITA Scholar-Athlete Award.
The recognition is bestowed on squads maintaining a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale) for the 2015-16 academic year.
Johnson boasted a perfect 4.0 GPA in psychology, while senior Ante and sophomore Brills and Herder maintained 3.46, 3.70, 3.94 GPA's in biology, journalism and elementary education, respectively.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
