ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Drake University football team earned two spots on the preseason All-Pioneer Football League team, the league announced Tuesday, July 26.
Senior
Mack Marrin and fifth-year senior
Eric Saubert received their first preseason All-PFL honor and are both coming off first-team campaigns. Marrin posted a league-best 8.5 sacks among 12.5 tackles for loss last year. In addition to being named first team All-PFL, Saubert received All-American honors from three different organizations after leading all PFL tight ends and also Drake's receiving corps with 55 receptions for 580 yards and seven touchdowns.
Returning players who were selected to the league's 2015 All-PFL teams were placed automatically on the 2016 preseason All-PFL team in order of voting. Fourteen preseason selections were first-team honorees last season, seven earned second-team honors and nine honorable mention recipients.
The upcoming 2016 season marks the 24th year for the Pioneer Football League – the nation's only non-scholarship, football-only NCAA Football Championship Subdivision conference. The league will feature 11 teams each playing an eight-game schedule to determine the league champion and recipient of the automatic bid to the 2015 NCAA FCS Championship.
