ST. LOUIS – Junior Brooke Salisbury (Kearney, Mo.) of the Drake University women's soccer team has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday, Aug. 23.
 
Salisbury helped Drake edge North Dakota State, 1-0, in the first match of the 2016 season. The Bulldogs' defense held the Bison to just nine shots, including just three shots on goal, as Salisbury played all ninety minutes of the match.
 
Salisbury has appeared in 35 career matches for the Bulldogs. This is the first MVC Defensive Player of the Week award for the junior midfielder.
 
Drake plays at UIC and Wisconsin on Aug. 26 and Aug. 28, respectively. The Bulldogs open their home slate at Cownie Soccer Complex on Sept. 2 against South Dakota.
