Men’s Soccer Drops Season Opening Match at Pacific, 3-1

Drake is back on the field Sunday at CSU Bakersfield at 9 p.m.

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Drake University men's soccer team lost at Pacific, 3-1, Friday, Aug. 26 to open the 2016 season.

Drake (0-1) redshirt senior Ben LeMay (Hugo, Minn.) scored the match's first goal in the 19th minute (19:18). LeMay fired a perfect strike into the back of the net after capitalizing on a mistake by the Pacific (1-0) goalkeeper.

However, the lead did not last long as the Tigers scored the equalizer in the 25th minute and the go-ahead goal in the 27th minute (27:14). The goals were scored by Camden Riley and Anthony Orendain, respectively. Pacific added its final goal in the 35th minute (35:45) as John Rico-Contreres put one in the net.

The Bulldogs' offense struggled in the match managing just two shots with one on goal while the Tigers recorded 14 shots and seven on goal. It was a physical match as the two teams combined for 30 fouls.
