DES MOINES, Iowa – Sophomore
Kenya Williams advanced to the semifinals at the Air Force Invitational to lead the Drake University women's tennis team on Friday.
Williams defeated Wyoming's Anastasia Tkachenko, 7-5, 7-6 to move on to the No. 4 singles semifinals.
The rest of the Bulldogs didn't fare as well as Williams. Junior
Summer Brills fell to Utah State's Nini Guensler, 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 1 singles draw. Junior
Tess Herder won her first set 6-4 but Texas State's Pippa Carr came back to win the final two sets 6-4, 7-5 at No. 2 singles. Utah State's Monika Van De Vondel topped sophomore
Joely Lomas, 6-1 6-1 in the No. 3 draw.
In doubles, both teams lost their opening round matches, as Williams and Herder won their consolation No. 2 Flight B match over Northern Colorado's Anna Battersby and Courney Schulte.
The Bulldogs will continue action at the Air Force Invitational on Saturday.
