Track & Field Begins 2017 At Holiday Inn Invite

Bulldogs begin the main portion of their indoor schedule this weekend.

The Drake University track and field teams open up the 2017 portion of their indoor schedule this weekend at the Holiday Inn Invite, hosted by the University of Nebraska at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. Competition begins Friday evening at 4 p.m. with field events and preliminary heats and then resumes on Saturday at noon.

The Bulldogs last competed on the first weekend on December at the Central Dutch Holiday Preview and recorded 25 top-3 finishes to open the season with the majority coming from the team's veterans.

This weekend, nearly 45 Bulldogs are set to return to the track this weekend against competition from the likes of Nebraska, Oklahoma State and UMKC.

Despite not having competed in more than a month, co-interim head coach LaRon Bennett and Dan Hostager have been pleased with the team's training over the holiday break, especially that of the team's newcomers who returned to campus in fine form.

Following this weekend's competition, the team travels to Columbia, Mo., for the Tiger Invite on Jan. 20.
