Caitlin Ingle of the Drake University women's basketball team has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week presented by Eagle Bank and Trust Company, the conference announced Tuesday, Jan. 24.
In Sunday's win over Indiana State, Ingle became the MVC's all-time leader in career assists with 687. She just missed her second career triple-double in the comeback victory over the Sycamores with 13 points, nine assists, eight rebounds and three steals. In Drake's first win of the weekend over Loyola, Ingle finished with seven points, five assists and three steals in 24 minutes in the blowout.
This season, Ingle is averaging 10.2 points and a league-leading 8.1 assists per game, an assists total that ranks second in the nation. Ingle is a two-time All-MVC First Team selection and a two-time MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team selection.
Ingle's honor marks the 11
th time this season a Drake student-athlete has been named MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week. Ingle owns a 3.84 cumulative grade point average and is a psychology major with a sociology minor. She has previously been named MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week twice in her career.
To qualify for the honor, student-athlete must carry a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing. Redshirt freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not eligible. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
