LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Drake University women's tennis team had a pair of Bulldogs earn a pair of wins on the first day of the ITA Central Regional Championships Thursday at Lawrence, Kan.
Senior
Tess Herder and freshman Liz Petushkova began the day with a 8-4 victory over South Dakota's Kollarova/Stanciu, while senior
Summer Brills and junior
Joely Lomas fell to No. 8 seed Laskutova/Matoula from Tulsa 8-4 in the opening round.
In singles, Herder cruised past South Dakota State's Morgan Brower 6-2, 6-1 as Petushkova earned a 6-3, 6-3 win over South Dakota's Luana Stanciu to advance to the second round.
Brills and Lomas each fell to a Nebraska Husker in the first round and will compete in the consolation draw.
Herder and Petushkova will continue play in the main draw on Friday for the second round of the singles and doubles draw.
