Timmer Named To MVC Men’s Basketball Preseason First Team

Senior guard is the MVC's second leading returning scorer.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Drake University senior Reed Timmer (New Berlin, Wis.) has been named to the 2017-18 Missouri Valley Conference Men's Basketball Preseason Team, the league announced Tuesday, Oct. 24, as part of its annual media day.
 
Timmer was one of six student-athletes named to the first teams and one of 12 total student-athletes to earn preseason all-conference honors.
 
Timmer returns as Drake's leading scorer after averaging 15.3 points per game in 2016-17 and is ranked second among all MVC returning MVC scorers entering the 2017-18 season. The guard also added 55 total three-pointers last season and has 121 career three-pointers to rank just outside of Drake's top-10. His 1,348 career points rank as the ninth most in school history and he is tied for fourth in career free throws with 367 in his career.
 
Last season, he earned All-MVC honorable mention accolades and was named the MVC Men's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second straight season.
 
The league also announced its annual preseason poll in which the Bulldogs were selected 10th. Missouri State, led by MVC Preseason Player of the Year Alize Johnson, were tabbed as the preseason favorites with 30 of the 40 first-place votes.
 
The Bulldogs, guided by first-year head coach Niko Medved, open their 2017-18 season at home Nov. 11 against Coe College. The team will also host an exhibition Nov. 4 against Minnesota Crookston at 1 p.m.
