Brills Finishes Runner-Up At FIU Invitational

MIAMI, Fla. – The Drake University women's team continued action at the FIU Invitational Saturday in Miami, Fla.

The Bulldogs had both of their doubles teams fall in the #1 doubles semifinals. Senior Summer Brills and freshman Megan Webb were edged out by FIU's Markovic/Grib 7-6 (6), while senior Tess Herder and freshman Liza Petushkova dropped the other semifinal, 7-5, to Texas State's Perez/Navajo. A bright spot for Drake in doubles came from juniors Joely Lomas and Kenya Williams as they claimed the #2 doubles consolation championship by defeating UNF's Lucia Montano and Mela Jaglarz, 6-2.

Brills finished runner-up in the #2 singles draw as she lost to Grib, 6-0, 6-1, in the championship match.

Petushkova will play in the #3 singles draw championship on Sunday, while Lomas plays for third-place and Herder and Jaglarz look to bring home consolation championships in their respective draws.
