ST. LOUIS – Freshman Olivia Bruce (Lakeville, Minn.) of the Drake University women's soccer team has been tabbed the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Soccer Newcomer of the Week, the MVC office announced Monday afternoon.
 
Bruce, a forward, scored the game winner in Drake's 1-0 win over Loyola in the regular season finale on Oct. 26. She scored with just over three minutes left in the first half as sophomore Cassie Rohan (Palatine, Ill.) sent a perfect cross from the edge of the 18-yard box that Bruce headed in for her second career goal. She played 32 minutes in the win and has played in 14 matches in her first season and along with her two goals has two assists.

This is Bruce's first career MVC weekly award and fourth for a Bulldog in 2017. Fellow freshman Hannah Bormann (Amana, Iowa) has been MVC Newcomer of the Week three times this year.
 
Bruce and her teammates will play in the MVC Tournament semifinals against UNI on Friday at 3:30 p.m. The match will be broadcast on The Valley on ESPN3 as the Bulldogs look to win their second-ever MVC Tournament title.
