SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Drake University men's golf team recorded a season-best round on the final day of the Fighting Irish Classic Monday at the Warren Golf Course in South Bend Ind.
The Bulldogs tallied a 286 for a total score of 866 (290-290-286) to finish in 10th-place and were just two strokes back from ninth-place Georgetown and six shots from eighth-place Dayton. Host Notre Dame won the event with a score of 822, while Georgia Southern finished runner-up with an 828.
Sophomore
Kyle MacDonald fired a career-low 68 to lead the team tied for 17th-place with a total score of 212 (71-73-68). Junior
Jack Kennedy shot an even par 70 to finish tied for 25th-place with a total score of 214 (69-75-70).
"Kyle and Jack had great rounds today, but we are just not getting a third or fourth score each round," said Drake head coach
Matt Lewis.
Senior
Drew Ison and sophomore
Chase Wicklund both registered a 74 in their final rounds for a score of 221 (77-70-74) and 221 (73-74-74), respectively. Freshman
Tim Lim wrapped up the team's effort with a score of 225 (77-73-75).
"I was proud by the way they guys battled from start to finish. We are looking forward to having a week off to get ready for our final tournament of the fall," said Lewis.
The Bulldogs will close out the fall season at the Old Dominion/Outer Banks Intercollegiate on Oct. 22-24 in Powell's Point, N.C.
