Macke Named MVC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week

Freshman libero held Drake's opponents to 0.098 hitting last week.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Drake University freshman libero Kylee Macke (Ankeny, Iowa) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday, October 9.

Macke led the Bulldogs with 38 digs in a pair of MVC road wins last week to average 5.43 digs per set in the team's 3-1 win at Evansville and 3-0 sweep at Indiana State. The wins extended the Bulldogs' win streak to 10 matches, the fifth-longest active win streak in the nation.

Macke helped hold Drake's opponents to just 0.098 hitting in the wins to keep Drake on top of the MVC standings at 6-0. The freshman opened the weekend with a team-high 26 digs at Evansville, the second-highest total of her career and highest in a four-set match. She added 12 digs in the three-set win at Indiana State.

Macke remains second in the MVC in digs in conference matches this season and is the lone underclassman ranked in the top five.

She and the rest of her teammates will face one of their biggest challenges of the season Friday, Oct. 13, when they welcome fellow MVC leader Missouri State to the Knapp Center. Both teams enter Friday's 7 p.m. match with perfect 6-0 records on the MVC.
