SAINT LOUIS, Mo. – Drake volleyball senior Kyla Inderski (Urbandale, Iowa) has earned Missouri Valley Conference Volleyball Scholar-Athlete Team honors for the third-straight year, the league announced Tuesday, Nov. 21.
A total of 20 student-athletes were honored with 12 on the first team and eight receiving honorable mentions. Inderski's honor is her second-consecutive first-team selection, while making it her third overall selection to the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team in her career.
Inderski, a senior who owns a 3.86 grade point average as an advertising and marketing major, is putting the finishing touches on one of the most decorated careers ever by a Bulldog. Her 1,428 career kills rank second in school history and 25th among active NCAA Division 1 athletes. Inderski also ranks fourth in school history with 1,428 career digs. This season, she also ranks in the top-10 for the MVC averaging 3.35 kills.
Forty-four student-athletes were nominated for the Valley's scholar-athlete team. The criterion for the honor parallels the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for Academic All-America voting. Nominees must be starters or important reserves with at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA (on a 4.00 scale). Also, students must have participated in at least 75-percent of the regular-season matches. Student-athletes must have reached sophomore status in both athletic and academic standing at their institution (true freshman and redshirt freshman were not eligible).
Inderski and the rest of the Bulldogs will travel to Normal, Ill., this week for their first MVC Tournament appearance since 2010. The tournament is scheduled to take place Nov. 23-25. Drake opens the tournament Nov. 23 as the No. 4 seed against No. 5 Indiana State at 5 p.m. The opening match will be broadcast on The Valley on ESPN3.
