Volleyball Has Three Named To All-MVC Teams

Inderski, Cheek and Plock all earn MVC honors

NORMAL, Ill. – The Drake University volleyball team, which is in the midst of one of its most successful seasons in school history, had three student-athletes garner All-Missouri Conference honors, the league announced Thursday during its annual awards reception.

Drake senior Kyla Inderksi (Urbandale, Iowa) and freshman Cathryn Cheek (Coppell, Texas) collected first team All-MVC honors while Emily Plock (Altoona, Iowa) was named to the MVC's All-Freshman Team.

Inderksi and Cheek's selection to the All-MVC first team marks just the second time in program history and first since 1996 that the Bulldogs have had two representatives on the All-MVC first team. They are also the first Bulldogs selected to the first team since 2010. Additionally, Plock's inclusion on the All-Freshman team makes her the first Bulldog to be included on the team since 2014 when Inderski earned the honor.

Inderski leads Drake in kills with 384 for a 3.34 kills per set average while ranking second on the team with 454 digs for a 3.95 digs per set average. She ranks eighth in the Valley in kills and ninth in total points this season. The senior as recorded 19 kills/digs double-doubles this season.

She has led Drake in kills in each of her four seasons and ranks second all-time at Drake in kills with 1,428 career kills, which ranks 27th among active Division I players. Defensively, she ranks fourth all-time in career digs at Drake with 1,512 and her 2,940 combined career kills and digs are the most ever by a Bulldog.

Cheek is in her first year with the Bulldogs and has made an immediate impact after transferring from Oklahoma. This season, she led Drake in kills in MVC game with 233 kills for a 3.70 kills per set average. Defensively, she adds 3.17 digs per set and is third on the team in blocks in MVC games with 41. She had 15 points/digs double-doubles on the season and had three 20-kill matches, all in MVC action. As part of an efficient Drake offense, she hit .250 or better in 12 matches including eight times in MVC games.

Plock was third on the team in kills with 264 for a 2.40 kills set while hitting .227, Drake's highest percentage by an outside hitter. The standout freshman also led the team with 22 service aces and was fifth on the team in blocks. During the season, she was twice named MVC Freshman of the Week, and was one of only three Student-Athlete to garner the award multiple times. At Evansville, she notched a career-high 19 kills on 36 attempts to hit .417 against the aces and the match was one of 11 in which she notched double-figure kills and one of 12 in which she hit .250 or better.

Drake's three All-MVC selections lead their teammates into Thursday, Nov. 23, evening's MVC Tournament match against Indiana State. The Bulldogs qualified for the MVC Tournament for the first time since 2010 with what is to date their third winningest season in school history. First serve against the Sycamores is set for 5 p.m. in Normal, Ill., and the contest will be broadcast on The Valley on ESPN3.
