ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Nineteen members of the Drake University football team have been named to the 25th All-Pioneer Football League teams as voted by the league's 11 head coaches. The Bulldogs had five student-athletes selected to the first team, four to the second team and 10 earn honorable mention honors.
Fifth-year senior
Tanner Evans and seniors
Nathan Clayberg and
Sean Lynch earned their first career first team honor. Evans and Clayberg helped anchor the defensive line that led the PFL with 19 sacks in league play and limited teams to just 127.2 yards rushing per game and. Evans led the Bulldogs and ranked third in the PFL with six sacks. He also recorded 44 tackles with 7.5 tackles for a loss and two pass breakups. Clayberg registered 44 tackles with 5.0 tackles for a loss and 2.5 sacks. Lynch was the Bulldogs top tackler with 72 stops and also recorded two interceptions and two pass breakups.
Fifth-year senior offensive linemen
Ryan Lemke and
Payson Wick rounded out the Bulldog's first team selections as they both started all 11 games at right guard and left guard, respectively. Lemke and Wick helped pave the way for the Bulldog offense that averaged 378.1 yards of total offense per game.
Drake four selections to the All-PFL second team include two defenders and two on offense in wide receiver
Steven Doran and left tackle
Jordan Lewinsky. Doran led the Bulldogs with 790 yards receiving on 39 catches and eight touchdowns.
Drake's defense, ranked near the top of nearly every defensive statistical category, was led on the second team by fifth-year linebacker
Mike Maize. Maize recorded 65 tackles with six tackles for a loss and 2.5 sacks. Fifth-year senior defensive end
Mack Marrin garnered second team honors after tallying 31 tackles with 6.5 tackles for a loss and 3.5 sacks.
The Bulldogs' 10 All-PFL honorable mention selections included six defenders, three offensive players, and one special team player. Cornerback
