ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Drake University's
Reed Timmer (New Berlin, Wis.) and
Sara Rhine (Eldon, Mo.) have been named the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athletes of the Week presented by Eagle Bank and Trust Company, the conference announced Wednesday, Nov. 28.
Timmer scored a career-high 32 points in Drake's 79-67 win over Chicago State, with 21 of those points coming in the second half to help Drake pull away. The senior was 9-of-16 from the field and 7-of-13 from behind the three-point arc. His seven three-pointers were a career-high and tied for the fifth most in a game in Drake history. The three-pointers also gave him 139 in his career, moving into 10th all-time at Drake. The senior pharmacy major is leading the MVC in scoring at 23.6 points per game and has now had three 20+ point games this season with games of 32, 29 and 28 points. In those three games he is a combined 15-of-26 from behind the arc. Timmer holds a 3.51 GPA in Drake's Doctorate of Pharmacy program.
Rhine averaged 17.7 points and 6.3 rebounds per game, while shooting 57.1 percent (20-of-35) from the floor in three games last week. The sophomore poured in a career-high 27 points, pulled down season-high 12 rebounds, swatted career-high three shots and added one assist in just 19 minutes in a blowout win over Mississippi Valley State. She added 17 points, on 7-of-13 shooting, grabbed four rebounds, handed out one assist and snagged one steal against George Mason. Rhine also scored nine points and pulled down three rebounds in a loss at Wyoming. This season she is averaging a team-best 16.0 points per game with 5.2 rebounds, while shooting a team-high 60 percent from the floor. Academically, Rhine has a 4.00 GPA as an elementary education major.
