DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University rowing team is set to host Creighton on Saturday morning, Nov. 4 at 9:30 a.m. in the annual fall regatta between the two rivals. The annual matchup is celebrating its 25
th year and always concludes the fall season for Drake.
This season, Creighton and Drake are competing at a new location on the Des Moines River and in a new racing format. With Drake's new Bright-Beckwith Boathouse (1300 Prospect Road, Des Moines, Iowa, 50310) in Prospect Park, the teams will race each other on a 650-meter sprint course off the program's boat dock. The teams will compete in three official races, varsity 8+, 2
nd varsity 8+ and varsity 4+, in a best of three format for each race. The team that wins two out of the three official races will claim the trophy awarded to the regatta's champion. Exhibition races, 3
rd varsity 8+ and 2
nd varsity 4+, will occur after the official races.
"We are excited for the new format and location for our race with Creighton," said head coach
Charlie DiSilvestro. "The new location will give us a chance to showcase the new boathouse and give spectators an optimal viewing location. The new format is a great opportunity to transition from long distance to sprint racing. Sprint races are what we do in the spring so this gives us a chance to line up side by side against a good opponent in Creighton and compete for the trophy. This is a race we always look forward to at the end of our fall season."
