In addition to a school record, 12 members of the Drake University track and field teams also set personal bests in competition Saturday, Feb. 4.
 
The school record came via Reed Fischer (Minnetonka, Minn.) turning in a time of 8:04.98 in the 3,000 meters to finish fourth at the Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Ind. In addition to shattering the Drake school record in the event, his time ranks as the second fastest in the Missouri Valley Conference this season and one of the top 30 times in the nation. The previous record was set in 2000 by Matt Gabrielson with a time of 8:06.44.
 
The rest of the team competed at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational in Lincoln, Neb., where 11 of the 21 Bulldogs that competed set personal bests in their respective events.
 
Just a day after lowering her career best in the 60-meter hurdles preliminary heats, Mary Young (Urbandale, Iowa) lowered it again by turning in a time of 8.43 in the finals of the event to finish eighth behind hurdlers from Texas, Kentucky and UNLV. Her time now ranks as the third-fastest in the MVC this season and the fourth-fastest in Drake history.
 
Also on the track, Rai Ahmed-Green (Irvine, Calif.) lowered her personal best in the indoor 200 meters with a 22^nd place time of 25.04 while Mykaela Cole (Urbandale, Iowa) finished 14^th in the 3,000 meters with the fastest time of her career in 10:26.42.
 
The men's team got a near half minute personal best from Josh Yeager (Center Point, Iowa) in the 3,000 meters at the Husker Invitational with a 15^th-place time of 8:28.15. Freshman Xavier Lechleitner (Edgar, Wis.) also clocked a personal best in finishing 19^th in the 800 meters.
 
Saturday's field competitors included Johnathan Osifuye (Woodbury, Minn.) finishing seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 47-5.57 while Taryn Rolle (Nassau, The Bahamas) was 10 in the women's triple jump at 39-9.75.
 
The Bulldogs' performances on Saturday concluded two strong days at the Husker Invite as the Bulldogs competed against a 35-team field that included No. 11 Kansas, No. 13 Stanford and No. 16 Texas on the men's side and No. 6 Texas, No. 8 Kentucky and No. 18 Kansas State in the women's field.
 
Drake returns to action next weekend at the ISU Classic, February 10-11, in Ames, Iowa.
