DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University women's tennis team used another strong performance in singles to secure a 4-3 victory over Augustan (S.D.) on Sunday afternoon at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
 
The Bulldogs were just a few points away from earning the doubles point, but the Vikings' Kornel Staniszewska and Berkley Darr managed to win the tiebreaker (7-5) over Tess Herder and Kenya Williams securing Augie the doubles point.
 
Drake got out to a great start in singles as all six Bulldogs won their first set.
 
Sophomore Joely Lomas was the first to finish with a dominant performance over Taylor Jackson, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4 singles.
 
Williams rolled past Christine Olivo 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 to give Drake a 2-1 lead.
 
Herder then put the Bulldogs a point away from the win when she won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3.
 
Mela Jaglarz fell behind 4-1 in the third set but managed to win the next five games, beating Kaitlyn Motley, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 at No. 6 and clinched the match for the Bulldogs.
 
The Bulldogs return to action on Friday, Feb. 10 at 4 p.m. when they host Iowa State.
