Brodek Named Bulldog Student-Athlete of the Week

Senior helped Drake defeat Purdue and Grand Valley State for the first time in the same day

Gabrielle Brodek, a senior from Hampden, Maine, has been named this week's Bulldog Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Drake Graduate and Professional Programs.
 
Brodek, a member of the Drake rowing team, was a member of the Drake varsity 8 + boat that earned two first place finishes and a second place finish this past weekend at the Lubbers Cup in Spring Lake, Mich. She helped Drake defeat Grand Valley State and Marquette in Saturday morning's race and then helped defeat Purdue and Ohio State in Saturday afternoon's race. This is the first time the varsity 8 boat has defeated Grand Valley State and Purdue in the same day. The Bulldogs' 8 boat on Sunday morning took second behind Eastern Michigan and finished in front of Marquette.
 
Academically, Brodek holds a 3.63 grade point average and is majoring in environmental science. She is a three-year letterwinner and has been named to the MAAC Women's Rowing All-Academic Team twice in her career.
 
Brodek and the women's rowing team travel to Omaha, Neb., to race Creighton on April 22.
