DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University women's tennis team closes out the regular season this weekend as the Bulldogs host Evansville on Saturday at 1 p.m. and Southern Illinois on Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs head into the final weekend with a 10-8 overall record and a 2-3 conference mark. Drake split its matches last weekend with a 4-3 win at Bradley and 4-3 setback at Illinois State.
Junior
Summer Brills, who is the team's top singles player, leads Drake with an 11-4 record and has gone 7-2 in her last 10 matches. Fellow junior
Tess Herder holds a 10-3 record, while sophomore
Joely Lomas has a 10-4 mark.
Evansville comes to Des Moines with a 14-13 overall record and is tied with Southern Illinois with a 3-2 MVC mark. In the Purple Aces last time out, they swept Missouri State, 7-0, on April 14. Diana Tkachenko leads the team with a 20-6 singles record, while Andrea Pascual-Larri is the only other player with a winning record with a 15-8 mark.
Southern Illinois takes on Northern Illinois before taking on the Bulldogs on Sunday. The Salukis are on a three-match winning streak and are coming off a 6-1 win against Missouri State. Meagan Monaghan has led the team in league play with a 4-0 record, while Athena Chrysanthou has posted a 4-1 mark in MVC action.
Following this weekend's matches, the Bulldogs travel to Normal, Ill. for the MVC Championship on April 28-30.
