Mandi Roemmich (West Des Moines, Iowa) to complete the Drake University softball team's series sweep of Indiana State Sunday afternoon with a 4-3 victory at Ron Buel Field.
Drake (19-16, 3-6 MVC) had a three-run third inning, including a two-run home run by freshman
Abby Buie (Gardner, Kan.) followed by back-to-back doubles from Roemmich and Sowa for a 3-0 lead.
After hitting her first career home run Saturday in the first game, Buie answered with the second of her career Sunday going 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs batted in and one run scored. Sowa recorded a hit in every game this series, going 2-for-3 in the series finale with a double and two RBIs.
Indiana State (15-17, 2-7 MVC) answered the Bulldogs runs in the bottom of the fifth with three runs of its own.
Senior pitcher
Kailee Smith (Murrieta, Calif.) earned her third win of the weekend and moved to 10-11 on the season. Smith pitched seven innings and allowed three unearned runs on seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
Drake will continue its homestand with a midweek game against in-state opponent Iowa on Wednesday, April 5 at 6 p.m. before continuing its MVC schedule with a three-game series against Evansville on April 8 and 9.
