IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Drake University track and field teams won three events against their in-state rivals and others at the Musco Twilight hosted by the University of Iowa, Saturday, April 22. The Bulldogs recorded 10 personal bests and 15 season bests as they build up to next week's Drake Relays presented by Hy-Vee.
The hurdlers again helped lead the team with
Hudson Priebe (Chamberlain, S.D.) recording a big personal best of 51.67 to win the men's 400-meter hurdles. His time was the sixth-fastest in school history and top mark in the Missouri Valley Conference this season. Following him with a season-best performance was teammate and defending MVC champion in the event,
Bas Van Leersum (Zaandam, The Netherlands) in third with a time of 52.58.
For the women,
Mary Young (Urbandale, Iowa) recorded a season-best time of 13.48 to win the women's 100-meter hurdles while
Victoria Coombe (Centennial, Colo.) was fourth with a personal best of 14.19. Later in the afternoon, Coombe returned to the oval and clocked a personal best of 1:01.25 in the 400-meter hurdles to finish third. Her time was the seventh-fastest in school history in the event.
The field events were also successful for the women's team with
Christina LeMunyon (Overland Park, Kan.) clearing a personal best bar of 11-11.75 in the pole vault. Her clearance was the second best in school history and ranks seventh in the MVC.
Taryn Rolle (Nassau, The Bahamas) let loose with a season-best jump of 40-1.5 in the triple jump to take second with a performance that ranks second in the MVC this season.
The Bulldogs continue competition next week on their home track as they host the 108
th Drake Relays presented by Hy-Vee, April 26-29 at Drake Stadium.
