SAINT LOUIS, Mo. – Drake University's
Tom Hands and
Ben Clark garnered Missouri Valley Conference Men's Scholar-Athlete honors, announced by the league office on Tuesday (April 25).
Hands received first-team scholar-athlete honors, while Clark earned honorable mention honors.
Hands, a sophomore from Fulbourn, England, holds a 3.72 grade-point average as an environmental science major. He owns a 16-6 singles record this spring and has recorded 12 doubles victories.
Clark, a sophomore from Comberton, England, is a finance major with a 3.42 GPA and has registered a 17-8 combined singles and doubles record. He went 3-0 in MVC action to help lead Drake to a regular season title.
To be eligible for nominations to the MVC Scholar-Athlete teams, nominees must own a cumulative GPA of 3.20 based on a 4.0 scale and be a starter or important reserve and have played in at least 75 percent of its team's matches. Student-athletes also must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution and have completed at least one full academic year at their respective institution.
The Bulldogs begin play at the MVC Championship on Saturday in Normal, Ill. against the winner of Illinois State and Stony Brook at 10 a.m.
