DES MOINES, Iowa – Three members of the Drake University men's and women's track and field team advanced through preliminary heats on Friday to qualify for finals on Saturday at the 108^th Drake Relays presented by Hy-Vee.
 
The Bulldogs will be well represented in the men's 100 meters as Demetrius Shelton (Markham, Ill.) and Caulin Graves (Kansas City, Mo.) finished sixth and seventh respectively in preliminary action to advance. Shelton finished with a personal best of 10.52 while Graves came in at 10.57.
 
Mary Young (Urbandale, Iowa) opened the day for the Bulldogs in the 100-meter hurdles with the third fastest qualifying time of the day at 13.59, just 0.01 off of her season best. In the 400-meter hurdles, Victoria Coombe (Centennial, Colo.) narrowly missed advancing with a 10^th place time of 1:02.53 and ran a leg on the team's 4x400-meter relay that came in 11^th as well.
 
Drake co-interim head coach LaRon Bennett also competed, racing the Rio Olympic Rematch men's 400-meter hurdles. The veteran hurdler finished eighth in 52.13.
 
The Bulldogs return to the Blue Oval on Saturday for the final day of the Drake Relays presented by Hy-Vee.
