SPRING LAKE, Mich. – The Drake University rowing team opened its 2017 season at the Lubbers Cup on Saturday on a 2,000-meter course on Spring Lake.

Drake was led by its varsity 8+ and 2^nd varsity 8+ boats that took first place in both the morning and afternoon session races. The Bulldogs' varsity boat defeated host Grand Valley State and Marquette in the morning and then defeated Purdue and Ohio State in the afternoon. The 2^nd varsity boat defeated Grand Valley in the morning and Purdue in the afternoon. Drake's varsity 4 A boat also claimed first place in its afternoon race. It was a busy day as the Bulldogs had two other varsity 4 boats compete.
 
Drake closes the Lubbers Cup Sunday morning with another set of varsity 8 and 2^nd varsity 8 races along with three varsity 4 races.
