DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University women's tennis team will split the squad up this weekend as seniors
Summer Brills and
Tess Herder received invitations to play at the prestigious Milwaukee Tennis Classic. The rest of the team will complete at the Gopher Invitational in Minneapolis.
The Milwaukee Tennis Classic is the nation's longest running collegiate tournament outside of the NCAA tournament.
Brills and Herder will see strong competition as the field features players from Miami (Fla.), Arkansas, Syracuse, Iowa, Louisiana-Monroe, North Texas, Navy, Utah State, Wisconsin, Marquette and Milwaukee.
The Gopher Invitational will feature around 80 players from 10 different teams, including Nebraska-Omaha, Marquette, North Carolina State, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Northern Iowa, Iowa State, South Dakota State and host Minnesota.
The format of the tournament will be six 16-player singles flights with two rounds on Friday, one round on Saturday and one round on Sunday. Scoring will be best-out-of three, no-ad scoring with a match tiebreaker if the sets are split.
There will be a daily four team doubles draw starting on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. The scoring for doubles will be one set, no-ad scoring with a tiebreaker at 6-6.
Draws will be final as the tournament begins on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. Play will begin on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 8:00 a.m.
Following this weekend's events, the Bulldogs will have a few weeks to prepare for the MVC Individual Championships on Oct. 7-9 at Normal, Ill.
