ST. LOUIS –
Rebecca Rodgers (Peotone, Ill.) of the Drake University women's soccer team has been picked the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week, the MVC office announced Monday afternoon.
Rodgers, a redshirt senior forward who missed nearly all of the 2016 season due to injury, scored three goals last week to help Drake go 2-0 with wins over Omaha and Western Illinois. Rodgers is now Drake's all-time leader in career goals with 33 as she moved past Andrea Schmitz (2002-05) who held the previous top mark with 32. Rodgers' career total ranks seventh all-time in MVC history.
Rodgers, the 2015 MVC Player of the Year, is having an outstanding final season with a team-leading six goals and 12 points. Both marks are tied for second in the league. Rodgers has scored five goals in the past five matches for Drake. This is her sixth career MVC Player of the Week award.
Rodgers and her teammates start MVC play on Sept. 30 when league newcomer Valparaiso visits for a 7 p.m. match at the Cownie Soccer Complex.
