MADISON, Ill. – Junior
Jack Kennedy tied a career-low to lead the Drake University men's golf team in the final round of the SIUE Derek Dolenc Invitational on Tuesday.
Kennedy fired a two-under par 69 to bounce back from a tough first day for a total score of 230 (79-82-69). Freshman
Tim Lim ended up as the Bulldogs top scorer, shooting a 10-over par 223 (76-73-74), while senior
Drew Ison finished a stroke behind the rookie with a 224 (73-74-77). Sophomore
Chase Wicklund shot a three-over 75 for a total score of 226 (75-76-75). Junior
Tommi Avant carded a two-over 73 in his final round for a total score of 227 (77-77-73).
"I thought we played much better today. The conditions were more difficult with the wind being a bit stronger and the pin locations were tougher," said Drake head coach
Matt Lewis. "I am proud that we improved our team score and moved up the leaderboard as well."
The Bulldogs posted one of the best rounds of the day with a score of 291 to finish in eighth-place with a total score of 892 (301-300-291). Drake trailed seventh-place Omaha by two strokes and sixth-place Creighton by eight shots. SIUE topped the 17-team field with a 841 (275-278-288), as UT Martin came in second with a score of 860 (289-280-291).
Sophomore
Kyle MacDonald, who played as an individual, came off shooting back-to-back career-bests to shoot one-over par in the final round, finishing tied for eighth-place with a score of 213 (71-70-72).
"Kyle played solid again and had a wonderful finish," said Lewis.
Drake returns to action on Monday, Oct. 2 when the Bulldogs host the third annual Zach Johnson Invitational at the Glen Oaks Country Club.
