Cross Country Continues Season At Oz Memorial

Bulldogs set to compete in their first of two-straight races in Minnesota

The Drake University men's and women's cross country teams continue their 2017 season at the Oz Memorial Friday, Sept. 8.

The Oz Memorial, hosted by the University of Minnesota, is named in honor of former Bulldog head coach, Gary Osborn. The women's 6-kilometer race will begin at 6:30 p.m. followed by the men's 4-mile race at 7 p.m. at the Les Bolstad Golf Course in Minneapolis, Minn. North Dakota State, South Dakota State and Mankato State are expected to participate along with the Bulldogs and Minnesota.

Entering their second week of competition, the Bulldogs will look to use the Oz Memorial to build momentum from a strong finish at the Hawkeye Invitational last week.

Junior Josh Yeager (Center Point, Iowa) was named Missouri Valley Conference Male Cross Country Athlete of the Week following a 12th place finish on the 6-kilometer course with a time of 18:14.0. Yeager posted the fastest 6k time in the Valley during the opening week of competition. Sophomore Kyle Brandt (Maple Grove, Minn.) also turned in a top-15 finish taking 14th place with a time of 18:24.9.

The women's team was led by senior Bailee Cofer (Overland Park, Kan.) who took a top-10 finish with a time of 14:25.7. Sophomore MyKaela Cole (Urbandale, Iowa) was the second finisher for the Bulldogs coming in 34th place with a time of 15:23.2.

Following the Oz Memorial, the Bulldogs will return to Minnesota on Sept. 23 for the Roy Griak Invitational.
