The Drake University track and field teams continue their strong 2018 campaign Feb. 2-3 at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational, hosted by the University of Nebraska.
The Bulldogs travel to the Bob Devaney Sports Center to face stiff competition from more than 10 teams including the No. 12 Wisconsin women and No. 21 Iowa State women as well as host Nebraska, Arizona State, Iowa, Maryland, Missouri State, North Dakota, Pittsburgh State and UCF.
Competition begins Friday with field events beginning at 4:30 p.m. and track events beginning at 6 p.m. The teams will resume Saturday morning at 11:30 a.m.
Last weekend at the Messersmith Invitational, Drake team 11 top-five finishes and seven personal bests. The women's team was led by senior
Taryn Rolle (Nassau, The Bahamas) who recorded a career-best jump of 18-10.75 to take second in the long jump. Rolle's jump was the sixth longest in Drake history, besting her own mark from over a year ago by two inches. Rolle also took third in the triple jump at 38-4.25.
On the men's side junior
Aaron Chier (Belgium, Wis.) took third-place in the 200 meters with a time of 22.20 while sophomore
Deonne Witherspoon (South Bend, Ind.) finished fourth with a personal-best time of 22.40. Sophomore
Xavier Lechleitner (Edgar, Wis.) also recorded a career-best in the 800 meters to finish fourth.
Following the Husker Invitational, the Bulldogs will travel to Brookings, S.D. for the SDSU Indoor Classic, hosted by South Dakota State.
