Rhine Garners CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

Redshirt sophomore Sara Rhine (Eldon, Mo.) of the Drake University women's basketball team has been named to the 2017-18 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 6 First Team, the organization announced Thursday, Feb. 22 morning. The CoSIDA Academic All-District® Women's Basketball Team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.

This season, Rhine, who holds a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average in elementary education, is averaging 15.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. Those marks rank third and seventh, respectively, in the Missouri Valley Conference. She leads the MVC in field goal percentage at 57.0 percent. Her shooting percentage is currently the 23rd best in the nation.

Rhine, who was the 2015-16 MVC Freshman and Sixth Player of the Year, has been selected MVC Player of the Week twice this season. She has been tabbed MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week five times in 2017-18.

To qualify for the COSIDA Academic All-District team, a nominee must hold a cumulative 3.30 grade point average, must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing and must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected in March.
