Greiner of Women’s Basketball Receives MVC Good Neighbor Award

ST. LOUIS – Senior Paige Greiner (Williamsburg, Iowa) of the Drake University women's basketball team has been selected as one of 10 student-athletes to receive the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Good Neighbor award for the 2017-18 winter season, the conference office announced Tuesday, March 20.
 
Greiner played in 130 career games for the Bulldogs over the past four seasons, including all 34 games in 2017-18. A deadly three-point shooter, Greiner scored 445 career points, made 124 career three-pointers and holds a career three-point shooting clip of 40.0 percent. She led the MVC in three-point percentage her sophomore year at 43 percent.
 
During her career, Greiner helped Drake win 97 games, claim its second-straight MVC regular season and tournament titles with the program's second-consecutive 18-0 record in MVC action and go to the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back seasons. Greiner won her final 42 MVC regular season and tournament games.
 
Greiner holds a 3.50 cumulative grade point average in psychology with a concentration in behavior analysis/developmental disabilities and human resources. She has been named to the Dean's List, MVC Academic Honor Roll and President's List. Greiner will graduate in May and pursue a job in human resources in the Des Moines Metro.
 
Greiner has volunteered with several local organizations, including, Courage League Sports, Food Bank of Iowa, Habitat for Humanity, Meals from the Heartland and Williamsburg Packaging. Greiner, her teammates and the Drake women's basketball coaching staff completed more than 1,000 community service hours during the 2016-17 academic year.
 
This year's winter honorees with Greiner include Donte Thomas, Bradley, Men's Basketball; Blake Simmons, Evansville, Men's Basketball; Marie Priest, Illinois State, Gymnastics; Mykenzie Kostka, Indiana State, Women's Swimming & Diving; Clayton Custer, Loyola, Men's Basketball; Chris Heye, Missouri State, Men's Swimming & Diving; Rose Simon-Ressler, Northern Iowa, Women's Basketball; Rachel Hauer, Southern Illinois, Women's Swimming & Diving; Dani Franklin, Valparaiso, Women's Basketball.
 
In order to be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must be in good academic standing, must demonstrate good citizenship through good sportsmanship and significant community service, and must participate in a sport, during the season of recognition. The Valley will recognize 10 student-athletes three times annually (fall, winter, spring), for a total of 30 honorees. Institutions select their State Farm MVC Good Neighbor Award honorees.
