DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University men's tennis team heads out to Eugene, Ore. to face the 47th-ranked Oregon Ducks Saturday at 7 p.m. CDT.
The team dropped its lone match last week, losing 6-1 to No. 19 Florida State, despite starting off hot and winning the point in the doubles portion of the match. Juniors
Ben Clark and
Tom Hands secured Drake's point in the doubles competition by beating the nationally ranked doubles team of Terrance and Terrell Whitehurst.
Going into Saturday's match, Clark holds a 12-5 singles record which is followed closely by Hands' record of 12-7.
Oregon won their last match with a score of 5-2 over Santa Clara. Before the win over Santa Clara, Ducks were on a four-match skid, including a 4-2 loss at Iowa. Drake beat Iowa, the teams' only common opponent, 6-1 in early February.
After they travel to Oregon, the Bulldogs return to the Roger Knapp Tennis Center April 7 to take on Old Dominion and UMKC in a doubleheader.
