ELMHURST, Ill. – Drake University's
Ben Wood was named Summit League Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the first time of his career, league of office announced on Tuesday, April 10.
Wood led the Bulldogs last week with a perfect 4-0 combined singles and doubles record. He defeated Jannik Giesse of No. 36 Old Dominion (6-2, 0-6, 6-2) at No. 5 singles. Wood then notched the team's clinching win with a straight-set victory over UMKC's Hunter Clark (6-3, 6-4). In doubles, he teamed up with
Tom Hands and earned a 6-3 win over tandem from nationally-ranked ODU and then a 6-2 victory over UMKC.
Wood owns 10 singles victories and 12 doubles win this season.
Wood and the rest of the Bulldogs host Wichita State and Valparaiso on Saturday at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. respectively.
