The Drake University track and field teams are set to host the 42
nd annual Jim Duncan Invitational this weekend, April 13-14.
Following an adjusted schedule due to forecasted weather, the Jim Duncan Invitational will open with field events Friday at 1 p.m. followed by all collegiate running events at 3 p.m. The invitational resumes Saturday morning with field events at 8:30 a.m. followed by high school running events at 9:00 a.m.
After a two-week hiatus from competition, the Bulldogs will return to the track to face competitors from 12 different schools including North Dakota, Omaha South Dakota State and Minnesota-Duluth.
Drake returns to action following a successful showing at the Arkansas Spring Invitational that featured two event wins from
Taryn Rolle (Nassau, The Bahamas) and
Kundai Maguranyanga (Glen Zorah, Zimbabwe). Rolle took the triple jump title for the second straight year with a mark of 39-7 ¼. Maguranyanga ran a time of 21.08 to win the 200 meters, the fastest from a Bulldog since 1981.
Maguranyanga's time holds as the fastest this season in the Missouri Valley while
Kevin Kelly's (Kilcok, Ireland) 1,500 meter time is second at 3:49.92. At the Arkansas Spring Invitational,
Jake Taylor made his debut in the Javelin with a mark of 166-7 which is second in the Valley.
Victoria Coombe (Centennial, Colo.) took third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.27, a time that still holds at the top of the conference standings.
Following the Jim Duncan Invitational, Drake will travel to Columbia, Mo., for the Tom Botts Invitational April 20-21 as a final tune-up before the Drake Relays April 26-28.
