Normal, Ill. – The Drake University men's tennis swept Illinois State, 7-0, Sunday at the Gregory Street Tennis Courts. With the win, Drake (17-13, 6-0 MVC) went undefeated in Summit League play to win the regular season title.
 
The Bulldogs took all three doubles matches to jump out a 1-0 lead.
 
Drake kept that momentum going into singles and won the first set on all six courts.
 
The Bulldogs went on to win in straight sets on all six courts to complete the sweep.
 
Barny Thorold took court No.1, 6-3, 6-4, while Vinny Gillespie won 7-6, 6-2 at No. 2.
 
Tom Hands and Ben Clark both earned their 17 singles win of the season at No. 3 and No. 5, respectively.
 
Ben Wood was triumphant at No. 4, beating Manuel Bernhard, 6-3, 6-4. Finley Hall improved his conference singles record to 4-0 with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 6.
 
The Bulldogs will travel to Denver, Colo. for the Summit League Tournament on Friday, April 27 and Saturday, April 28. Drake will be the top seed and square off against No. 4 seed Oral Roberts. The winner will play the winner of No. 2 seed Denver and No. 3 seed Valparaiso in the Summit League Championship on Saturday at 2 p.m. CST.
